How To Film A Wedding Reception

Wedding receptions are one of the most fun parts of a wedding day. The ceremony is behind you, food is being served, and everyone is getting ready to party! But what happens when everything goes wrong? What about when a massive lightning storm rolls through and makes an outdoor reception an indoor? Today you get to see exactly how I filmed a wedding reception that was anything but ideal. In this video I cover:

  • The exact audio gear I use for recording reception toasts
  • Fun techniques I use to pose a couple after their wedding ceremony
  • How I setup my lighting equipment for toasts and dancing
  • Angles for incredible reception exit shots
  • Ways to make your dancing footage look fun!

And you’ll also get all my camera, lens, aperture, and ISO details listed with every shot I use.

How To Film A Wedding Ceremony

One of the questions I'm asked most often is, “Matt! How do you film a wedding ceremony?!”, and today I'm going to answer that question in the most detailed video I've ever made on the subject!. In this video, I cover:

  • Angles I use to make it look like you're capable of time travel and teleportation during a wedding ceremony.
  • How many cameras you'll need to cover everything (it's less than you think)
  • Where I stand to NEVER have photographers get in my shots.
  • Ways to get amazing shots while being unobtrusive (no need to block anyone's view)

And you'll also get all my camera, lens, aperture, and ISO details listed with every shot I use.

In case you haven't seen it yet, you can watch Noah and Mal's wedding film for this Behind The Scenes.

I was a guest on the Be Creative Podcast!

A few weeks ago, Caleb Peavy of the Be Creative Podcast asked me to be on and chat with him all about (what else?) being creative! Before I was on, I did some research and saw that most of his podcasts were going 20-30 minutes in length. “No problem,”  I thought, “Mine will be right in there at the average length of 25 minutes.” Welp, we talked for 53 minutes, so I hope you guys enjoy it. We talked about how I got into filmmaking, the origin of my website name, and then we went super deep about

Caleb and I touched on how I got into filmmaking, the origin of my website name, and then we went super deep about a lot of my creative insecurities and how I fight them off. Also, I found out that Seth Godin was going to be on the podcast a week after me so I can add “On the same podcast (but not at the same time) as Seth Godin,” which is easily one of my highest accomplishments now.

You can listen in your web browser here, or on the Be Creative Podcast site, or on iTunes.
