Ashley and Tyler // Proposal Film // Fort Worth Botanic Garden, Texas

Ashley and Tyler Engaged June 8 2013I’ve been good friends with Ashley and Tyler for several years now. Ashley has helped me film many weddings and is one of the most talented creative people that I know. Two months ago Tyler called me and announced he was ready to propose, and he wanted my help. On June 8, Ashley would be taking photos of her friends Skyler and Brad, all over Dallas. Tyler hijacked their photo-shoot and had them tell Ashley they also wanted photos taken at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens.

I arrived with Tyler at the gardens at 10am, with the expectation of Ashley arriving anywhere from 11am-1pm. Well, she had a lot of creative inspiration during her photo-shoot and didn’t end up arriving until 1:30. This was actually beneficial because I had a lot of time to interview Tyler about his story leading up to the proposal.
After many secretive phone calls and text messages between Tyler and Brad, Ashley finally arrived at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. Brad and Skyler told her how much they wanted to take pictures in one place, and when Ashley walked around the corner, Tyler was there waiting for her. You can see from the film that she was completely taken by surprise. This was easily one of the best proposals I have ever filmed, and I expect to film their wedding in a few months.

Kelli and Dustin // Wedding Highlight Film // First United Methodist Church, Temple Texas

WhisperI met Dustin while filming a Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football game two years ago.  He was a pretty cool photographer and we bonded over shared excitement of having field passes for football games.  Last year, his fiance Kelli emailed me about filming their wedding in December.  After a few emails back and forth I made the connection of who she was marrying and immediately got even more excited about filming their wedding.

The two of them together make for one of the more goofy and laid back couples that I’ve filmed (which I prefer).  The entire time I filmed Dustin I was laughing at something he did or said to his groomsmen.  Kelli provides a balance to Dustin’s humor while trying to be serious in some moments but totally giving in to his jokes the next.  Their personalities mix perfectly.

Just MarriedKelli and Dustin were married at The First United Methodist Church, in Temple, Texas.  But, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself because they let me film their rehearsal dinner the night before at Peacock River Ranch in Gatesville, Texas.  They really went all out on this rehearsal dinner too – there was dancing, s’mores, amazing food (with queso), and redneck wine glasses.  Their wedding day was amazing as well.  First United Methodist Church is a historic landmark and has some of the best architecture at any wedding I’ve ever seen.  Amazing stained glass with a round auditorium made for a unique ceremony.

It was great meeting these two love birds and getting the chance to tell their story.

Please download the video below and watch it in HD, the film grain I put on it looks much better without web compression.

We’ve Come A Long Way // Ashley and Boone // A Kyle Field Wedding, College Station TX

I have a list of fun places I would like to travel to when filming a wedding.  One that requires no traveling at all is Kyle Field in College Station.  I’m not saying that the couple actually needs to get married on the 50 yard line, but taking photos there would be cool.  Last June my wish came true and I was able to film Ashley & Boone’s wedding.  The emails started like most of them, with her telling me they would be married at a church, but then things got crazy when she told me the reception would be at the Kyle Field Zone Club.  And they would be taking pictures on the field, and the groom’s cake was a replica football field, and the garter would be wrapped around a football when he threw it.  Okay so I didn’t actually know about the garter, but I really shouldn’t have been surprised.

Slightly more seriously, I hope this wedding conveyed how much Ashley and Boone were waiting for this day.  As the minister said, they were together for a long time, and had both grown a lot.  They realized that together they were better people, and they wanted it to last forever.

Cross Kyle Field off my bucket list (but seriously, if you’re getting married and having part of your wedding there I will gladly film it again), now all that is left is Hawaii, New Zealand, a mountaintop, Antarctica, and Germany to name a few locations.
