Three weeks ago Konova told me they were working on a new motorized system for their sliders, one that would be more compact, quicker to set up and easier to use. A week later they sent it to me to review, and I filmed the unboxing.
So this is genuinely an unboxing rather than a review. I didn’t entirely know what was in the box when I started cutting it open. What follows is what came out of it and what I thought at the time, and I’ll say up front that I’ve been testing the system since and expect to post a proper setup tutorial and review before long.
One practical note before anything else: I had to cut the box along the sides to get into it, because the top has to lift up and it’s a real pain otherwise.
What Was In The Box
Inside the outer box are more boxes. The first is the motorized system itself, the K380 MS Series. Next to it, packaged up, is what looks like a mount system, plus padding, which is always necessary.
Then there’s another box, and this one turned out to be the basic pan/tilt controller.
It’s like a baby version of the bigger one I already have, which is really cool. Same controller system, same joystick, but with the pan and tilt controls right there, and it lets you ramp, which is neat. I’m assuming this is meant to be used with their Smart Head. If you want the fuller versions of both of those, I’ve already covered the Smart Motion Pan Tilt Controller and done a setup tutorial and review of the Smart Head.
Next out is a belt and pulley system, and then the motorized system proper. There’s a new plate for mounting, and what looks like a belt holder, which makes me think they’re using a different belt setup that doesn’t rotate all the way around but instead just runs from one end of the track to the other. I’m a big fan of that, because it should be quite a bit easier to set up.
Then a power cord, and then this must be the new motor.
It still slides onto the mounts, but it is significantly more compact than the old one, and it should slide a little more easily. I cannot wait to try it out.
Last thing in the box, of course, is screws and Allen wrenches. It wouldn’t be a good product if you didn’t have screws and Allen wrenches.
