You may remember me calling Sarah and Chris “undercover awesome” when I wrote about their wedding film trailer a short while ago. They’re the two people that, if you mention their names to anyone, there’s immediately a glow of recognition, a story, and a lot of laughter.

This is the longer film, and it has more of the stories that make that true.

A Groom Who Counted

The film opens on numbers, because Chris keeps them. Not seven months-ish. 225 days. And before that, 102 weeks, back to a coffee shop where Sarah said yes to a first date. He knows both figures exactly, and if you ask him he will tell you exactly.

Both of them wrote letters to be read on the morning of the wedding, and the film is built around them rather than around a narrator. I’m not going to reprint what they wrote here, because those words belong to the two of them, but they’re the spine of the whole thing: a groom who has been counting toward a specific day for a very long time, and a bride who is straightforwardly overjoyed to be starting what she calls her greatest adventure.

And One Of The Craziest Celebrations I Have Filmed

A bride holding a microphone and singing on a packed reception dance floor with the groom beside her
This is not a quiet reception, and the bride has the microphone.

Then the reception happened, and I mean this genuinely: it is one of the wildest celebrations I’ve ever filmed. Their friends did not hold anything back. If you want another North Texas celebration that went all out, this McKinney wedding finished with fireworks.

The exit, at the end of a day somebody had been counting toward for 225 days.

Which, if you know these two, is exactly what you’d expect.

Filmed at an outdoor country club in Dallas, Texas, on the a7S II and these lenses.

Dallas has been good to us over the years. If you want another one from the same city, I filmed Doug and Kelsi out at the Trinity River Audubon Center back in 2015.

Getting married yourself? Regardless of whether you know the exact number of days you’ve been dating and engaged, Rachel and I would love to film it. Get in touch over at FilmStrong.
