It started at a Christmas party, when a young woman named Kayla put an obscure rap song on. A young man named Jon, who happens to be fluent in lesser known rap, sang along to every word.
That led to walking, then a taxi ride, then Mexican food, then trips around the world, and then a wedding.

Under The Oak Tree
On the day, with the setting sun coming gold through the leaves of the enormous oak that served as their backdrop, Kayla and Jon said their vows in front of their closest friends and family. Not a crowd. The people they actually wanted there.

Getting To Know Them First
In the months before the wedding we got to know these two properly. And by know, I mean not just how they fell in love but why.
Why a detail-oriented woman like Kayla fits so well with a laid back man like Jon. Their deliberate decision to buck the trend of big flashy weddings and put the money and attention into a small number of close relationships instead. Their shared love of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and the fact that Jon recreated locations from the film for the proposal.

My hope is that watching the film lets you know them a bit too. That a glimpse of one day shows you a great deal more than one day. Two laid back hipsters. Koala Bear and Giraffe. Bride and groom, husband and wife.
Like Jon, I’m very glad Kayla put that obscure rap song on.
Austin keeps pulling us back. If you want another wedding from out that way, I filmed Ricky and Kim at Camp Lucy, and that post has both the highlight and the full film on it.
