Maverick. Marla. Aren’t those the coolest names anybody has ever had? For real.
I like these two a lot. Maverick makes videos much like I do, though with a name like that you’d assume he specialises in surfing footage or something similarly radical. Bearing in mind this is Texas and the only waves we get are two feet high in Corpus Christi, he is limited to filming land surfing, or as the locals call it, skateboarding.

The Whole Wedding Was About Film
Maverick’s love of film is so total that they built the entire wedding around it. There was a movie slate groom’s cake. The minister spoke at length about how their wedding resembled a movie. All of it felt like Hollywood, which I suppose made me the paparazzi.
I got to follow them around, film their happiness, and quietly collect ideas for my own wedding.

Two Complete Goofballs
You wouldn’t really understand the day without knowing that both of them are absolute goofballs. Maverick has a penchant for theatricality, rivalled only by how enthusiastically Marla encourages it.
Exhibit A, the proposal. He took Marla onto the Baylor campus, sat her down on a bench, and disappeared around the side of a building. Five minutes later he came back around it wearing a child’s plastic suit of armour, riding an actual white horse, and asked her to marry him.
That same instinct is fully on display in the film when he says his vows.

So: hilariously goofy, theatrical, film-loving people who I was very glad to film and hang around with. I love unique people.
