I’m in beautiful, rainy, cloudy New York City for the B&H Build Expo, and I’m going to show you the coolest, newest, most exciting, prettiest and craziest camera gear on the floor. Come along with me.

Fujifilm

The GFX Eterna. A medium format cinema camera with a screen on each side. Not $500.

The Fuji GFX Eterna, and very cool to finally see one in the flesh. Its claim to fame is that it has a screen on this side, and then you walk around it and there’s another screen on that side too. Crazy stuff.

Oh, and it’s also a medium format cinema camera. No big deal. Just an enormous sensor, and it is gorgeous. Look at the kit lens it comes with. Can you believe the whole thing is only $500?

It is not. I lied. It’s more like $70,000. But I want to get my hands on one so badly.

Monopod

Squeeze the handle, up it goes. I'm six foot five and this thing is around eight feet.

This is a Tribex, and it’s still a prototype. You squeeze the handle and it goes up and down, and that’s the entire operation. It is properly robust and look how high it goes.

For scale, I’m six foot five, which I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned in a video before, and this thing is something like eight feet tall. That’s crazy.

Thoughts On Build

Quite positive, honestly. Don’t get me wrong, I love a show like NAB, but NAB is just so much. So many rooms and buildings and floors and companies to talk to.

Build is all heavy hitters. It’s the companies I actually wanted to see, and none of the fluff, none of some rando company making paper products where you go, hang on, I came to look at camera gear. Very appreciated.

New York, meanwhile, is loud all the time.

Wandrd Bags

Four new Wandrd bags. I've been using theirs for years and the quality is consistently there.

Wandrd have four new bags out and there is so much storage space in them. I’ve had multiple Wandrd bags at this point and used them for years, so I’m a huge fan. Consistently great quality.

Memory

Eight terabytes, 2,100MB/s, in something the size of a credit card.

Over at the Crucial booth they’ve just rolled out the X10, an obscenely fast external SSD, which is genuinely interesting if you’re somebody who is always editing and always needing more space. Which is all of us.

  • USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, so 20Gb/s
  • Up to 8TB of storage
  • Sequential reads up to 2,100MB/s
  • Three year limited warranty

Look how tiny it is. Eight terabytes in something that size, that fast, is wild.

The Thing I Don’t Need But Want Very Badly

A handheld fog machine being demonstrated at a booth, throwing a cloud of white fog across the frame
Smoke, bubbles, haze. I do not need this. I want it very badly.

A handheld fog machine. It makes smoke, it makes bubbles, it works as a hazer, it does all of it.

Imagine every future YouTube video of mine just completely hazed up. It would look incredible. Maybe I do need it, actually.

Okay, I do need it.

And that was the coolest camera gear I saw at B&H Build in New York City. Let me know in the comments what your favorite was.
