GRC Episode One: Clutter Falls
Written by Matt
Tuesday, 05 August 2008

This has been a long time in coming, but it is finally here.  I have finally finished episode one of the Guadalupe River Chronicles.  The biggest hindrance in creation was timing.  Either the weather or some other random event kept me from filming.  But it is finally done!  I really hope you enjoy watching it!    Now, all that is left is to make the next episode.  Hopefully soon, but it is looking like that might not happen until next summer.  Rest assured I will have plenty new videos coming out and I have been bouncing around some new ideas that you will be sure to love watching.  Also, If you have any video ideas for me I would love to hear them!  Leave me a comment or contact me.

NOW WATCH THE VIDEO!

The Conundrum
Written by Matt
Sunday, 27 July 2008
I picked out the outfit for my grandfathers funeral today. No, he isn't dead yet, though by the time you read this he might be. I find myself torn right now. Part of me knows that he lived a full life and am glad to see him he had on to that big roundup in the sky known as heaven, yet part of me wishes for more time. Time, something that we never seem to have enough of. Time, that I should, could, would, have spent with my grandfather. Time, that I am now spending picking out the outfit that I will wear when I stand next to his grave.

The only thing that is keeping me solidly rooted right now in my thoughts is the knowledge that time isn't going to stop. And this isn't the end. My life will still go on, and one day I will see my grandfather again just as I saw him a few days ago. And when I do he will be perfectly fine. But until that time, I am left just wishing for more. This is definitely a conundrum.

Tuesday, 22 July 2008

I realize that it has been a bit since I posted a video, things have been completely INSANE this past week.  I figured that an update was in order though.  If you look at my Affiliate links on the side you'll see Hill Country Chihuahuas.  The woman that runs the site is a friend of mine and if you are looking for a little dog to adopt they're the ones to go to.

You also might be interested in checking out this overly "friendly" mannequin that I found in Macy's today.  Check out the picture in my Flickr.

The work on The Guadalupe River Chronicles continues, you can expect to see episode one very soon!  Look forward to extreme tuber ownage!

The Guadalupe River Chronicles
Written by Matt
Wednesday, 09 July 2008

Few places offer the variety of water entertainment that is available on the Guadalupe River.  Each summer, thousands of vacationing adventurers take the plunge into the river to float right by my house. Not everyone has a normal adventure down the river though.  I began this video series last year with a trailer.  Over the course of last summer, the only footage I was able to obtain was of the high river waters.  Sadly, tubing on the river was closed.  This is a new year with a new summer though; and the lack of rain over the past few months has made the river perfect for tubing.  This video series provides an in depth look into life on the river as well as an insight into the dangers and fun that can be had. I hope you enjoy it!

Only the trailers are currently avaiable.  You can expect to see the first episode of many coming very soon.

The Top Seven Things That I LOVE(hate) About Family Travel!
Written by Matt
Tuesday, 01 July 2008

We have all been there.  The frantic rush to get things packed at the last minute.  The burning desire to complete the trip and reach the destination.  The agonizingly repeated questions of "Are we there yet?", and "Can we stop I have to pee?".  These will be repeated until the mission is completed and the weary travelers stop in a hotel for rest.  I recently had the great pleasure of staying in a hotel in Houston a few weeks ago along with my family.  It was there that I came up with the idea of compiling my thoughts on hotels.  Now, you may be thinking, "Hey Matt! Why is there only seven reasons?  I can come up with more!"  That is because those seven reasons were the only ones that I could come up with at the time!  If you have more ideas and would like for them to be featured on my website, leave me either a video response on youtube or a comment on this page and I will be happy to include it in my article.  I now present to you a video that takes place entirely in a hotel, check it out!

Who Is Matt - Deer.

It had rabies.  I swear it had rabies.  Ok maybe not rabies.  I'm used to having wild animals around my house, but they usually don't get close enough to eat out of my hand.  This one deer thoguh, that my family affectionately calls "mama", is proving that animals can be tamed.  Well, that is if you have a lot of food available for them to eat.  Check out the video of me feeding "mama" after the break!

EXTREME Bowhunting!
Written by Matt
Thursday, 15 May 2008

My brother describes bowhunting as a science.  A carefully orchestrated clash of arrows and bow that comes together in the death of an innocent animal.  I recently had the chance to film my brother as he gave a speech about bowhunting; and then attacked an innocent deer.  The video is embedded after the break.

I'm warning you now though...it is graphic!

I Met THE CHUCK NORRIS!
Written by Matt
Tuesday, 13 May 2008

Rugged Chuck

Chuck Norris isn't a mere mortal.  This is obvious from the hundreds of websites stating his greatness.  I had a chance last week to meet the man, and it was insane!  When he shook my hand it was like a thousand herculean men crushing it.  It's obvious he's been hitting the total gym.  You can check out my thoughts on Chuck, his beard, and my awesome photoshop skills after the break!

The Sony AVCHD Quality Test
Written by Matt
Wednesday, 23 April 2008

 HD Camera

Note: If you are lazy and don't feel like reading all of this there is a video posted after the break that basically explains what I say in the paragraphs below.

When I was searching for an HD video camera to purchase, I kept coming back to the Sony AVCHD brand.  I had good luck with using one of their still cameras before and had decided it was time for an upgrade.  I spent several months researching the different types of cameras that I could use.  The one difficulty that I had when doing this research though, was the need to know what video quality a Sony AVCHD video camera would produce.  After scouring the internet I ended up with no videos that showed what the camera had to offer.  So I took a leap of faith and purchased the HDR-UX1 from their AVCHD lineup of cameras.  It ended up being a very solid camera.

In my desire to fix the difficulties that I faced when buying an HD video camera, I have decided to create several (18 to be precise) test videos with my new camera.  Each of these will showcase the various quality settings of the camera.

The Sony HDR-UX1 came with four quality settings:

-HDHQ+: 12 Megabits-per-second recording quality.

-HDHQ: 9 Megabits-per-second recording quality.

-HDSP: 7 Megabits-per-second recording quality.

-HDLP: 5 Megabits-per-second recording quality.

The camera records at a native 1080p 1440x1080i but with Sony Vegas it can be re-rendered to any quality that you prefer.

I recorded 8 clips outside my house, each of varying quality from the HDHQ+ to HDLP and rendered them in both AVI and WMV for quality and size purposes.  There are also two clips that I resized to 720p and uploaded to Vimeo for HD streaming. (Link included after the break.)

All 18 of the video download links and descriptions are included after the break!

Spring Break 2008!
Written by Matt
Wednesday, 26 March 2008

This spring break was, without a doubt, one of the funnest that I have ever had the opportunity to experience.  It was seriously one of the best times of my life.

Dune Buggies!

Seven of my friends and myself, had the opportunity to fly out to Scottsdale, Arizona and engage in some of the most masculine things that I've ever done in my life.  These ranged from riding dune buggies, to playing golf, to one day to going to baseball games, to going to a comedy club, to eating at very fancy restaurants, to just laying out by the pool.

I, of course, being the aspiring videos guru that I am a brought along my video cameras on the trip. with it I was able to catalog and nearly every day of ou adventure.since I brought my camera, you now have the chance to experience through the videos exactly what I experienced.  I hope you enjoy watching them, and it gives you an idea of how much fun I had.

Please, by all means, check the videos after the break.

Bleeding Ears! Or something like that....
Written by Matt
Wednesday, 05 March 2008

I've got a short clip for your enjoyment today!  My roommate bought a gas powered scooter that goes the blisteringly fast speed of 25 miles per hour.  The fun didn't begin until we took off the exhaust at 1am though.  Check out the video after the break to see some insanely loud scooter action!
